MOVIE: “Heavenly Creatures” – Peter Jackson (1994)

The movie is based on a true story, the one of the Parker-Hulme murder, happened in New Zealand during the 50s.
It tells about the friendship between the two teenagers Pauline Parker and Juliet Hulme, both with a past of illness at their back and social and family problems. When the relationship becomes too morbid and takes the way of the runaway from reality, relatives of the two girls have to intervene, and it will be exactly this that will take to the tragic epilogue of the story.
One peculiarity of the movie was the choice of the actresses: it’s the cinematographic debut of both the main actresses, Melanie Lynkey and Kate Winslett, because they had been choose on the base of the resemblance with the real characters (resemblance even geographic, so to mantain the accent during the dialogues).
I can’t say I didn’t like the movie, but I barely tolerated Kate Winslet’s acting. The three stars so are for a completely subjective and personal opinion.
